Nestled in a row of terrace houses in the heart of Moss Side is the Rawcliffe Street Community Garden.  The garden is owned by Adactus, but for the use of the local community. The group had previously secured funding to purchase raised planters for their garden – and on Friday 29th May, it was time to get them planted. We are very happy to report that the Adactus500 Scrutiny exercise on energy efficiency has been successfully completed. The Scrutiny Panel, made up of eight residents from across the Adactus Group, met over three meetings between January and April and produced a set of recommendations for our Board members to consider. These recommendations, and the response to them from Adactus management, were presented to the Group Audit Committee earlier this month. The ‘Adactus – Northwards’ partnership team swung into action again last year with a host of joint events at Joseph Dean Court and Lightbowne Park in Moston Manchester. Over 100 residents attended each event which had everything from face painting, circus skills, arts & crafts, Animals Intuition, as well as music and games. Adactus Housing Group has reduced its energy bills by £250,000 and its carbon footprint by 25% in under five years. Taking action on environmental issues has been at the forefront of Adactus Housing Group’s operational strategy since 2005, and it is playing a leading role in reducing carbon emissions in the social housing sector. Moss Side Community Allotment, with the support of Adactus Housing Association, have secured £6000 of Food Poverty Funding. The funding, provided by Manchester City Council, is to be spent over two years in a bid to make an impact on localised food poverty, in Moss Side and surrounding areas.
