Overview

The Warm Home Discount scheme offers a one off payment of £140 towards the electricity of customers that need it most.

If you are eligible, the money is not paid to you - it is a one-off discount on your electricity bill, or as a £140 credit on your electricity key or meter, between September and March.

The discount will not affect your Cold Weather Payment or Winter Fuel Payment.

You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity.

Who is eligible?

You qualify for the discount if all of the following apply:

  • If your electricity supplier is part of the scheme
  • Your name (or your partners) is on the bill you are getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you get savings credit as well).

You may be able to apply directly to your electricity supplier for help if you don’t get the Guarantee credit element of Pension Credit if either:

  • You are on a low income
  • You get certain means tested benefits.

Who do you contact?

Contact your electricity supplier to find out if you are eligible for the warm homes discount. If you are eligible they will tell you how you can apply.

Alternatively most suppliers have warm homes discount information and an online application form.
